Based at West Town Farm in Ide, Organic Arts is a charity providing learning opportunities to do with the land and countryside. We recently took part in a wildlife walk run in conjunction with Devon Wildlife Trust and had a fantastic time!
The views were amazing and we felt so far from home despite being a few minutes from the M5 and Exeter!
The farm covers a huge area that used to belong to a series of smaller farms, and we got to explore various different parts including woodland, orchards, open fields and meadows. The children loved learning about the different grasses, flowers, insects, pests and farm animals and walked a lot further than I thought they would manage.
There is a Shepherd’s’s Hut in one of the orchards that can be hired for camping and looks like a magical place to stay!
At the end of our walk we took advantage of the homemade cakes and drinks available from the donation cafe – absolutely delicious. The children enjoyed playing in the farmyard with the giant model cow and on hay bales before we went home.
There are toilets and a farm shop that is open everyday from 9-5. Meat Boxes are available to order.
Organic Arts have a Stewardship grant that enables them to offer education sessions to groups of 6 or more, that can be tailored to your interests/needs. Definitely worth a visit!
