As we sat outside our bell tent, beer and book in hand, listening to the waves and the live music while the children snuggled down to sleep, I was pretty sure there was no where I’d rather be.
Treyarnon YHA is the very best a Youth Hostel can be – welcoming, friendly, clean, comfortable, well equipped, stunning location, great food, live music events…the list is endless!
The bell tents are laid out around a large camping field (campers can bring their own tents too) and there are new premium bell tents this year too that look very fancy with verandas!
All bedding is provided on really comfortable futons, along with solar powered lighting, little tables, rugs and my children’s’ favourites – bean bags! As you can use all the facilities in the youth hostel there is very little you need to bring aside from that which you’d take to a hotel. The self catering kitchen is very well equipped and there are several fridges to store food in. There are additional camping bathrooms and toilets in a purpose built log cabin block that you can get a key for if you leave a refundable cash deposit. this system helps to keep them free and clean.
Treyarnon’s position just a few moment’s walk from an RNLI patrolled beach make this the perfect break for anyone who wants to spend most of their holiday time in or close to the sea. Everything has been provided to make it a successful stay – wetsuit and board hire, outdoor hoses for rinsing sand, drying racks and rooms for wet gear.
The Trey Bay Cafe forms part of the hostel and sells delicious, freshly cooked food. The pizzas are a particular treat after a long day at the beach. Children eat for free as in other YHA places, so prices feel really reasonable. There is a packed programme of live music in the evenings over the summer and it made our stay feel extra special being able to ‘go out’ just metres from our tent.
We only went for one night but really felt we had had a holiday – we can’t wait to go back!
