Children’s Craft Workshops – Bunyip Buttons and Beads

You know something is really good when you can’t help but wish you’d found out about it long before!

Bunyip Buttons and Beads is one of the fabulous independent shops on Fore Street in Exeter and I had seen it before but never been in. When I saw a summer holiday workshop for children advertised, I took the chance to explore.

As a parent with very little creative ability and 2 children who love to glue, stick, paint and create, I am always on the lookout for opportunities for them to get their fix without too much pressure on me. These workshops really fit the bill as all materials and space is provided, along with a bit of inspiration, direction and help.

This week’s session was decoupage – the children were given one of their initials and then invited to choose papers with which to decorate it before the ripping, sticking fun began!

While they enjoyed gluing and creating in a quiet moment of concentration, I took the chance to drink the kindly offered cup of tea, and have a wander in the shop.

There are craft supplies galore and all displayed in a really accessible way so that even hopeless hands like mine were itching to try and make something! I learned that there are lots of workshops for adults too and I would be really tempted to take the chance to have a go at playing with all the lovely buttons, beads and threads.

The children worked hard at their creations and really enjoyed the process – they were very happy with the finished results too!
