We are just so lucky living here! I say this all the time and have so many reasons for making that statement, but the parks we have locally are enough to justify it in their own!
Heavitree Pleasure Ground is a fantastic space, situated behind Heavitree Fore Street and accessible from all sides – along Whipton Lane and Hamlin Lane being the best places to park. The A bus also stops nearby.
The main play areas (and fantastic paddling pools that open in the summer months) are situated on the Whipton Lane side, alone with tennis courts, a bmx track, hard courts and the public toilets. Away from this towards Roseland Ave and Chard Road there are grass pitches and open space as well as surfaced paths perfect for buggies and scooters.
The play areas are fenced and gated, meaning that dogs and ball games are separated from the equipment and there is a good selection for all ages, with plenty to keep children busy for a good while.
The network of paths are also good for novice scooting or learning to ride a bike – there are clear signs stating where cycling is and isn’t permitted. The bmx circuit and skate ramps are also good for those with wheels to use!
Loads of community activities happen in Heavitree Park – keep an eye on the Facebook page of ParkLife Heavitree for updates. There’s also a junior ParkRun on a Sunday at 9am each week, and the Love Local Food mobile shop calls there on a Tuesday at 4pm – perfect for an after school park trip.
