DevonDaze’s Diary – Half Term Travels!

Half term already seems to have been aeons ago! Now we’re back to the school run routine and already looking ahead to Easter instead, memories are fading fast – so I thought I would tie together the accounts of our busy week of travelling around the UK and of course,  our lovely Devon.

To start the holiday we travelled to beautiful Pembrokeshire to stay at Bluestone Wales – a resort that I had heard a lot about but never visited. We had a fantastic time with family and friends, enjoying the cosy interconnecting lodges and exciting waterpark. The illuminated woodland fairy walk is an evening that will be hard to beat for magical memories. Read more about our visit highlights here.

We continued our travels in Yorkshire, staying in Huddersfield close to the canal, which provided us with lots of opportunities for feeding ducks, crossing bridges and spotting boats with funny names!

We spent a lovely long day at Eureka, the national children’s museum – we’ve been before but find something new to see and explore on every visit. The half term focus was ‘Space Trek’ and the children loved the associated workshops and craft activities. You can read more about our favourite exhibits here.

A much smaller museum, but just as popular with my children is the Tolson Museum. Not only does the museum have lots of interactive and informative displays, it wins bonus points for being set right next to a brilliant play park at Ravensknowle. You can read more about our visit here.

We made a detour to Nottinghamshire to meet family and were able to visit Hodsock Priory and their beautiful snowdrop display. No pictures can do them justice but I did try – see more and some photos here.

Back in Devon we reconnected with the sea – visiting Exmouth beach. We met friends and all the children whizzed along the seafront on their scooters before paddling and running around on the sand. To warm up a bit out of the wind we made our way inland to the park at The Maer and enjoyed a snack and a play there before transporting lots of sand home again!

We rounded off our week with a visit to the lovely Prickly Ball Farm and Hedgehog Hospital  – taking advantage of their ‘fiver in February’ offer. We had such a great time and will definitely be returning very soon. Read more about our visit here.

I hope you had a lovely half term and enjoyed yourselves whatever you got up to too!
