Powdermills Pottery & Cafe

If you’re looking for a good place to get out on Dartmoor but want an easy walk that doesn’t require map reading, has a cafe and toilets and lots to look at, then Powdermills Pottery is absolutely perfect!

Situated on the B3212 between Two Bridges and Postbridge, at the very middle of the moor, Powdermills is signposted and visible from the main road. The OS grid reference is 628774.

There is parking available at the Pottery buildings, along with the shop, cafe and toilets. The walk to the derelict gunpowder buildings starts to the left of the ottery and is signposted.

After crossing an open field, you enter the powder works and there are lots of buildings to explore. Small people can crawl inside the chimney and watch carefully for fairies to fly across the top!

There are hills to climb and rivers to paddle in – whilst many parts of the buildings have grills and grids to keep them safe there still are some big drops so please take care and maybe keep dogs on lead.

You can loop around the buildings to head back across the field to the Pottery along the path you started on.

Back at the main centre, you can view and purchase a selection of pottery made on site, along with an array of other locally crafted items.

The cafe serves seasonal menus of locally sourced foods – and is renowned for their delicious cream teas. All food is served on/in items made in the Pottery, and there is an area of outside seating where you can enjoy the views.
