The Hayridge in Cullompton is a fantastic centre housing the library, a café and meeting rooms. It has its own pay and display car park and is modern, light and airy. The library has a fantastic children’s area with toys, DVDs, audio books and comfy seating as well as a really good selection of books for all ages.
It’s a great place to sign up to take part in this summer’s Reading Challenge, this runs until 9th September, is free to take part and usually involves stickers and activities along the way and a prize at the end. Read more here.
This summer there are also lots of extra activities going on at the library for children to take part in:
- A free Activities Trail and wordsearch around the library (all holiday)
- A free (but you need to book) ‘Make a Disguise’ craft session on Wednesday 26th July, 10.30-11.30.
- A CSI workshop with Sciencedipity on 1st August at 3pm, £4/child, must be booked.
- A visit from some animals from Exmoor Zoo on the 21st August at 12.30. £4/child and must book in advance.
Many of the usual groups and activities are running over the summer too. Cullompton has a Story Play every Tuesday from 13.30-14.30 for young children and their carers and Bounce and Rhyme every Wednesday at 14.30 for the same group.
Saturday mornings are very busy with another Bounce and Rhyme session at 10.30, and Lego and Cully Coders ‘coding club’ running for older children. All of these activities are free and need no booking.
The café is small but perfect for a quick snack, a post reading challenge treat or a light lunch. They sell very reasonably priced fairy cakes that my children love. There is a courtyard garden to sit in if the weather is good.
It’s a fab library and well worth a visit. Why not explore as many different libraries as you can this summer? They’re all free, you can borrow and return to any in Devon and theywill all be offering different activities. You can read about our summer visit to the Marvellous Beasts @ St Thomas library last year to whet your appetite!
