This is a fab walk for those who don’t want to trek to far, need to take wheelchairs of pushchairs or those (like me) who have small children who need a treat waiting at the end!
Starting near Budleigh Salterton at White Bridge on the River Otter, there are various parking spots along South Farm Road – a turning that is well signposted for Pynes Farm Shop when leaving Budleigh towards Otterton. All spaces are free but some are rough or boggy, and please give consideration to the rights of way and farm access points dotted about.
From White Bridge you can look to your destination and see the River Otter meeting the sea ahead of you. Take the path heading towards Budleigh – it is well surfaced but there are 2 gateways that particularly wide pushchairs may struggle with. This path runs along beside the river through the nature reserve and there are lots of information boards and viewing platforms to help you spot wildlife as you go.
As you emerge into the lime Kiln car park at Budleigh, you will see y=the BBQ and picnic areas and 2 lovely play areas to visit, before you venture to the beach (and ice creams!) that lay beyond.
This walk works really well for little legs that want to be independent as they stand a good chance of making it, plus you can bring a pushchair in case it’s needed without too much bother. It’s a roughly 2.2km round trip and can be the perfect answer when you want to combine a walk and the beach. More maps and info can be found here.
