Stantyway Farm is part of Clinton Devon Estates and has both the South West Coast path and a network of public footpaths and bridleways running over its land and nearby. Many of these have stiles or rough ground underfoot (perfect for a proper ramble with sea views) but there is a 3 km loop on surfaced paths suitable for buggies with bigger wheels.
All walks can start from the main farmhouse, where free parking is available next to Otterton FC ground. There is also a lovely Honesty Cafe where you can fill your thermos before your walk or enjoy a treat after!
A hand drawn map of the farm footpaths is available in the Honesty Cafe and it’s worth taking a picture to have on your phone.
This 3km route takes you along Stantyway Road, leaving the farm and Otterton behind you and heading Dow the hill will great views to the sea on your left.
Where this lane leads away to the left, you keep right, and ignore the path signed to ‘Clamour Bridge’ as you loop back on yourself and start to head back uphill. The views to your left hear over Budleigh Salterton as fantastic, especially as you gain height.
Many of the fields have names, and information about the work the farm is doing can be found on the gates. As an organic farm, huge amounts of work go into high quality care and feed for the animals and its really interesting to learn more about how closely farmers work with the seasons and the natural environment to keep everything running smoothly.
Stantyway Farm is home to many forms of wildlife and is known as a Cirl Bunting nesting ground, which makes this walk popular with nature and bird enthusiasts.
Where there is a sign towards Otterton to your left, you take the unmetalled road to your right (be sure to fully appreciate the view behind you from the brow of the hill) and then turn right again to bring you back to the farm and the temptations of the Honesty Cafe!
