We love a good set of stepping stones! Whilst we invariably end up with children and dogs in the water, it’s good to at least start with a hop across!
This lovely set are located just outside of Chagford, close to Chagford Swimming Pool. Whilst there is a small car park next to the pool, it is for patrons only and so parking in the town itself would be better.
Once at the pool (which is signposted from Chagford itself) you can follow the footpath signs into Rushford Mill Farm and follow the sounds of the mill race to the river.
Once you have had a good play around on the stones you can then follow the main footpath alongside the river to some woodlands to spot the stone carvings/statues and have a paddle on the river ‘beaches’ there.
This path eventually brings you to Dog Marsh Bridge, next to the Mill End Hotel, where you can spot another statue and apparently indulge in amazing cream teas!
If you wish to link up to longer walks, you can cross the road here onto the Castle Drogo estate and join up with paths leading to the castle, Fingle Bridge and eventually Clifford Bridge to Steps Bridge.
The majority of this walk is flat and level and therefore good family exploring territory. However there are steps, stiles and tight gates so buggies wouldn’t be easy.
